Myrna Perez is a developmental therapist who has been working in Early Intervention since 2002. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Community Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She later went on to receive a Master of Science in Child Development from Erikson Institute. Myrna has been working with families in their homes for over twenty years. She understands the importance of establishing a rapport with families. She believes empowering parents and caregivers helps them feel more confident as teachers and leads to better child advocates. Myrna also believes in providing families the space to express their uniqueness. Understanding that bias needs to be acknowledged and countered. Myrna wanted to join the RTW Project because as an Early Intervention provider she has seen firsthand how long families have to wait to obtain diagnostic testing.
Myrna is fluent in English and Spanish. When she is not working, Myrna spends time with her three daughters ages 20, 18 and 14 as well as her husband. She and her husband spend much of their spare time visiting their older daughter in college. They also enjoy watching their two younger daughters perform together on stage (one plays guitar and the other the Puerto Rican cuatro) as part of a Latin youth ensemble. Myrna often wonders when she will have the time to just enjoy a good book.
